Female Pattern Baldness
Female Pattern Baldness is a form of Pattern Baldness that effects millions of Women, despite being less common than Male Pattern Baldness.
It is permanent - your hair doesn't grow back by itself - and usually ranges from mild to moderate. Unfortunately, unlike with men, ladies cannot usually simply shave their heads as a fashionable option.
Also unlike in men, the hair usually thins evenly all over the head with no receding hairline. Those afflicted with female pattern baldness rarely go entirely bald, although it's very common to lose enough hair that it is very noticeable. Unfortunately little medical research seems to be done in this field.
It usually starts after menopause though sometimes it even occurs in teenagers. Heredity is the main cause although it can also be due to disease or hormonal imbalance. Checking with your doctor is important!
The only US FDA approved treatment is Minoxidol, also known as Rogaine. usually a topical 2% solution is used, although many ladies opt instead for Provillus for Women, which combines Rogaine with herbs that have been used for millennium to combat hair loss.
There are plenty of other ways to potentially treat or disguise female pattern baldness, including wigs, hair transplants, Provillus/Rogaine, natural solutions that work well for some, and appropriate hair styles. My Aunt Dinah always had a beehive hairdo when I was a kid. Although no longer fashionable, the beehive hides thin hair well and Aunt Dinah as I later found out had extremely thin hair. Talk to whoever does your hair if concerned as they may have suggestions and may be uncomfortable volunteering them without prompting by you.
The only concern with Female Pattern Baldness is appearance. If you don't mind thin hair, it's not a problem, but most ladies are concerned with appearance. Unfortunately we are often judged at least in part on appearance.
